MAGNUS ALEXANDERSON
Magnus Alexanderson is a composer of electroacoustic music (EAM) and an experimental guitarist. He studied Electroacoustic Music Composition at the Royal College of Music (Kungliga Musikhögskolan) in Stockholm from 1980 to 1983, as part of Sweden’s first higher education course in EAM. He studied under prominent composers and later received private tuition in instrumental composition. His works have been performed widely across Sweden, including a commission for the 2001 EU Commissioner meeting. He lectured on EAM and Sound Culture at the University of Linköping from 1992 to 2019. As a guitarist, he has collaborated with notable improvisational artists.
Sound and music can evoke all kinds of emotions, thoughts, associations, and memories. For humans, music has brought life-changing experiences. Regular sounds can influence our breathing, inspire movement and dance, and foster awareness of our bodies. In our daily lives, we encounter sounds whose meanings are crucial for orienting ourselves in the world. One of our most significant forms of communication is words, which were meaningful sounds before they also became visible in writing. A subtle sound can color an image or a film scene. Music affects our relationship with the visible. All these experiences and insights guide me in my daily work with sound and experimental music.
